This week, a colleague at another paper wrote a rueful piece about the fall of the Soulpepper theatre co-founder, who was brought to heel about 10 days ago – labelled as a sexual predator, his job gone and life in smoking ruins — when four actresses who are suing him for millions in civil court held a big press conference.

The headline on the piece said it all: “Albert Schultz: an execution, then a trial.”

She could have just changed the name — to George Randolph, founder of a theatre school in Toronto; or actors James Franco and Michael Douglas; or world-renowned conductor Charles Dutoit (six more women stepped forward to accuse him Thursday); or the Canadian-born screenwriter Paul Haggis and or to the English department at Concordia University in Montreal, there being no names attached to that one yet — and written virtually the same story about a new doomed fellow every day since.

That doesn’t count, obviously, the dozens who went before Schultz.
