AUSTRIA’S new ruling coalition has dealt a major blow to the EU as the far-right Free Party of Austria (FPÖ), which hates the way the bloc is run, returns to power.
The EU will be quaking in its boots after new Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced a new coalition deal to journalists this evening.
His eurosceptic coalition partners, the far-right FPÖ, despise the bloc and have demanded changes to the way it has forced nations to integrate.
And unfortunately for the likes of Jean-Claude Juncker, its former presidential candidate Norbert Hofer will be the new Foreign Minister.
Mr Kurz’s People’s Party (OVP) and the FPO have already agreed on their stance on Europe.
Both parties oppose deeper political integration among EU members states and seek to have more powers returned to national governments.
They also oppose Turkey’s membership of the bloc.
